Information
The CYG2011 OC is pleased to announce the following medical provision has been agreed for visiting nations (athletes and officials) during CYG2011.
It has been confirmed that immediate and necessary treatment will be provided by any island General Practitioner free of charge. Treatment solely within the Accident & Emergency Department at Nobles Hospital as an 'out-patient' will be provided free of charge as will transport by ambulance (if needed) to the hospital.
Nearer to the event CGA's will be asked to provide details of team doctors assigned to their team during the Games. On collection of their accreditation, team doctors will also be issued with a prescription pad for use during their time on the island. Unused prescription forms must be returned to the OC prior to departure from the island. Due to a separate issue linked with their medical insurance cover some Doctors may only be able to treat members of their particular team and cover will not extend to other residents of that country, such as parents. The island's Department of Health will circulate details of all visiting team doctors to island GP's and chemists located in the Douglas area prior to commencement of the Games.
Nations should be aware that any hospital treatment out-with the above provision (ie hospital admittance following assessment at A&E, operations, etc) will be paid by the individual or team and we would therefore urge all nations to ensure comprehensive medical insurance cover is sought before travelling to the island and to check that your policy covers the Isle of Man and the costs of repatriation.
The CYG2011 OC continues to liaise with the Isle of Man Government and the UK Home Office to ensure a smooth transition through UK airports for those nations with Visa requirements and update information will be posted on this site and advised in future newsletter distribution.
